recent news

I have recently inherited this domain fully. I have been working on putting everything into a comicpress format fully. I don't know php but I'll probably be able to figure it out. Progress can be found here

http://www.sparklydoom.com/TestArea/wordpress/

I'm doing a test run of everything so that I don't mess up the current site so that archive can be viewed for reading. I'll probably make this a splash page. Anyway input is welcome and suggestions are needed.

I'll see you on the other side!

so we've apparently been traumatized by shampoo here at SD

I'm giving props to Abby, who stars in this comic since this is a compilation of most of our conversations. I'm particularly proud of this comic since I've crammed in as much reference as possible. It has been a past week of sadness really in the passing of MJ, Farrah Fawcett, Ed Mcmahon, and Billy Mays. More powerful forces command us...ok that was really tasteless...but so am I (enjoy my random inspiration on the right, we will miss you Billy Mays; sound equalizers and unclean clothes alike).

I also didn't realize that the Head On reference was lost on many people I know. I didn't know this was a regional commercial so I shall enlighten you all.

yes you need to know ALL OF THIS BACKGROUND STORY. This is MY CHILDHOOD! I have a headache just trying to find this for you all.

If you can't tell I did not go to anime expo this year, first time in like 5 years that I didn't run home to see people in cosplay dress and partake in it myself. I'm somewhat sad and somewhat happy that I was able to stay put this year and enjoy the fireworks in one of the few cities that had it.

First off, there is a good vampire movie coming out, based on the anime Blood, the Last Vampire. I'm going to have to say I'm excited because it will actually be actiony and more blood than possible thanks to the title and the way the series works. BriTANick showed their short film at UCB which was pretty freaking amazing. I had a good laugh. I've discovered 8bitdaily for new music for my tedious job madness. This week is the passing of the Pride Parade in NYC
which was all in good fun and finally in time for good weather. I recently saw UP and Mike and I wept. Yes me and the person who essentially skies down a mountain of dead babies wept during the first 20 min of a pixar movie. I also saw drag me to hell, which calls back to Sam Raimi's Evil Dead days. I heard Ellen Page was supposed to play the lead in this but something kept her from it. I think she would have pulled of the transition from sad puppy face to righteous bitch a bit better since I was left feeling a bit apathetic to the main character in the end.
Well that's all I've got, happy America's Birthday to you all. I do of course leave you with some youtubes.

And We're back!

FRANK IS BACK!

A month long absence is now over with many congratulations to Frank again with his beautiful new daughter Solana.

We have a bit of a comic backlog due to this (pictures but no words, I hate putting in words) so with any luck we will be back to something of the 2 week schedule. EXCITING!

So this entry is another sister comic due to the fact that I will be seeing her soon and it is her birthday at the end of the month. Still with the emo stalker troubles, oh well we all have them I suppose.

In news:

DOLLHOUSE SURVIVED! It is up for review and with any luck we will see @FeliciaDay (yes follow her on twitter) in the next episode. That episode will also be in the box set of season 1 so run out and support.
If you have ever heard of the self made producer/actor/director Tommy Wiseau, well you are about to not have a choice. The Room is a god awful movie, so bad it became awesome. It now has public screenings across the country with tons of audience participation (mainly throwing plastic spoons). We were first in line for the showing in NYC and I believe me and some friends were interviewed, its somewhere on the internet. We also met the Bri of BriTANick there and saw David Cross impersonating the infamous creator himself.
I was also at a Lady Sovereign concert this past tuesday and oddly enough loved one of the opening bands (Chester Fench), its like is Napoleon Dynamite crashed into hipsterville in Boston. And like everyone else I know they hate LA. Whatever.
AND I SAW STAR TREK (details on that in an entirely different post later)
I'm off to go to a dance parade in the park along with a glow in the dark big wheel race (yes those tricycles) tomorrow. Pics maybe

Shar

Currently watching both Big Bang Theory

Its bad when I understand Sheldon

And Batman: the Brave and the Bold

a bit of a break

CONGRATULATIONS to Frank!

He now has 3 beautiful daughters as of 6 20 am today on friday the 13th. Their third daughter was born today and we will be taking a bit of a break while he attends to her.

She was born 6 hours after I sent him the next comic :P so please be patient. The content of the comic is ironic to this situation which is the way life should always be. In the meantime, enjoy this bit of unshopped (except for the words) photo.

cop out?

Welcome to monthly cop out comic.

In an effort to keep some sort of update schedule (I was aiming for every 2 weeks), you will get something simple at least once a month. And the other should be something epic (as in funny or pretty). Also two ghosts is a way I found to take conversations I've overheard out of context. This isn't the last you've seen of 'two ghosts'. Why ghosts? well raceless and ageless makes my life awesomely easy.

New comic up in two weeks, it will be colored and pretty I promise.
Layout is almost done so that this can be crisper.

I've...really got nothing much to say this week. It's been REALLY hard to wake up this week for some reason. Oh, Anamanaguchi's new album is out on March 3rd. So that's pretty awesome. For sheer nostalgia's sake and boredom at work I have found, you guessed it, the oregon trail original version and its FUCKING HARD. I died of starvation before crossing the third river, but its still fun as ever. First exposure to guns in games for me, oh sweet irony; because it was the game we played in computer class in school. Its all school's fault you see; showing us how to shoot animals. We would eventually make the connection to people sooner or later and I would have attributed going postal to the school that taught me how to lead with a rifle. I will stop now...I'm sure the thought police aren't far behind. So DOSmuseum has effectively preserved my childhood and I've been happily frolicking through its archives, you should too. I saw Push and Coraline in the same day. Very much worth watching; although 3D glasses give me a head ache. Jonas Bros movie would probably make me puke, but that doesn't even need to be in 3D for that to happen.

Anyway I will leave you again with the songs stuck in my head

and the most traumatizing game on DOS that I recently faced to grow from my fear

that game people already played

We have technically reached 30 comics, which means we are eligible to join Project Wonderful, but since I'm the OCD person about only certain things, I will work on the layout and background instead. "I" meaning, I will make a pretty background and send it to Frank and then harass him to death about posting it because I'm an obnoxious jerk. So one day I intended to do a portal comic because I love the game and the song constantly played in my head. This has been sitting in my computer for months and even longer in my work notes because I'm lame. The last panel design has been in my notes long before the words for the comic even took place. I would really like to make it a desktop or a print but I SUCK at backgrounds. If I do make it such things I will edit the background to death. But I tried to make the layout more adventure comic-y and I think I did that alright. I do have to remember to make the files I send smaller because I have to work on such a large scale doesn't mean it has to look that way.

So last weekend I went to comic con and met a lot of people. Penny Arcade guys were at their table and they are their characters personalities which is wonderful. I got a signed poster from the new chapter of their game which was exciting. Dave came representing Snafu and was all alone for a while. Cyanide and Happiness table depressed the hell out of me because they are made of two guys who are both younger than me and were busy as hell making custom valentine cards. And of course, got a badge with a charmander drawn on it from Vgcats man Scott. I was able to find a dvd version of the complete series of Daria which made my day. Yay life. I found out that on my birthday there will be a Webcomics Weekend which I'm DYING to go to but cannot due to an acroyoga performance that I signed up to do. Lol oh shame. I'd probably go and make an ass of myself drooling all over everything. With any luck it will happen again next year and I will have learned how to draw a decent background.

Anyway I will leave you with random crap from the internet

Ratatat's Falcon Jab which is just ironic

And the newest digital short from SNL

so I've had no actual work to dd

Hey, wanna see some stupid things I did this week?

Both as gifts to the webcomic greats and practice for myself I've been emailing out random comics that have been inspired by reading other people's sites. It's been fun to get feedback. But anyway.

this is for Joe at joe loves crappy movies

And this is for John Campbell at

Working on one for dresden codak, snafu, and vgcats (yay big people, but just because I met them at comic con, the last two that is)

so that movie then

So I saw this movie on opening night with a friend who makes decisions for hilarity's sake. It. Was. Terrible. It was so bad that the whole audience, which mind you was made up of the 14 year old girls cuddling the book like it was their bible, was laughing at every line uttered by this awkward couple. Awkward because Robert Pattinson is a bubbly Brit trying to portray an angsty kid from Forks and because Kristen Stewart is incapable of moving her GODDAMN FACE. Not to mention the copious amounts of staring, aka eye sex. Yes a summation of this movie is staring and sparkles. No I didn't read the book, no I don't intend to, NO MEANS NO. So during this movie, of course my friends and I were laughing the loudest, so a woman turns around and actually tells us to "please be quiet some of us are trying to watch a movie here". A moment of silence passes and suddenly the ENTIRE audience erupted in laughter at her. I fell in love with the cracked review of this movie, completely made my day. Twilight was like watching Sarah Palin debate; produced, written, and directed by women yet COMPLETELY not helping any good representation of women today and lacking any role model for the younger girls to legitimately aspire to (they will all die terribly in a BDSM accident involving, you guessed it, bloodletting). So what did I do the next day? Tell everyone how terrible it was and they had the lovely idea of using free tickets to get in and see it again, this time with 40s. THAT is how you watch a movie.

New York Comic Con! I will be there, but not selling things, just as a crazy fan because so many people will be there. I hope to have presents and comics as homage to them all (and penny arcade will just scoff at me), and then I will run away into the darkness. I'll be there Saturday running around with ...I think he's dressing as the Spirit but whatever... Currently not planning on dressing up, it being FREEZING here in NYC. I'll probably post pictures from my iphone, so they won't be the best quality but they will be there!

CPAC is my main objective right now. I'm hoping to do an updated version of the Snow White Ring, a portal comic, and something anime related as prints (it being an anime con) . I think its possible to do before the end of march.

sparklydoomshar
upbringing

Here is a snippet of my upbringing, which probably explains me to an extent. All til the end which is when I watched the news one day and listened to after work conversations. The "cold and alone" bit was added on behalf of Frank who enjoys melodrama as much as I do. Third panel is a direct quote from a star trek episode I found on the internet somewhere. So welcome everyone to 2009. This comic has been up and running for over a year and I still haven't reached 30 comics to advertise with project wonderful, yes believe it or not they have some standards. And I've done two holiday themed comics, I think christmas is the only real funny one that can be parodied.

After many weeks, I was finally able to grab a mac compatible version of dreamweaver and am in the process of learning to upload and link up a layout so that I don't have to harass Frank so much. Yeah having a family makes it hard to be my minion. What's happened this week...um. Last monday at the Upright Citizens Brigade theatre I was able to see the internet sensation BriTANick perform their skits for an audition for a run at the theatre for a month. Wow they were amazing and they were both NYU grads, I didn't even know that. In addition to that nerdiness, tiny ninja theater is also back in action after a very long hiatus bringing us the romantic tragedy of romeo and juliet with tiny plastic ninja figurines. Fantastic idea really, I'm sure it will either get old really fast or continue to remain amazing.

On the internet I have discovered the most AWESOME remix snippet of the super smash brothers brawl theme ever created by an independent artist named Audix. I am willing to pay him and harass him until I can get that mp3, but in the meantime, his first album came out not too long ago. Purchasable over the internet, its amazing what technology has allowed us in this day and age. Con wise, I didn't get a response from the artist alley folks from katsucon until after the registration was closed, so no trip to VA that weekend. Castlecon is still on with a full registration and table available, thank god. I was wondering where I would be able to put all of these shirts. Anyway, that is all for now.

the youtubes of great things:

sheer hilarity, I know the original is on newgrounds but I'm too lazy to find it

oh man Rhod Gilbert is a Welsh comedian I discovered while bored at work, he seems so insanely annoyed at things but when he speaks in interviews he's as chill as they come.

lastly, a spoken word artist named Ernest Cline, who's done several videogame poetry smashes has had several youtube vids up. I just want to know WHERE THE HELL ARE THESE POETRY SMASHES?!
